How To Install A

Drip Irrigation System

It makes sense that you install an irrigation system in your yard. After all, you don’t need to worry about getting the right amount of water out there or have to make sure you move the sprinklers all the time. But, if you plan to have one installed, a sprinkler system is expensive and it's not necessarily something that most people can do.  On the other hand, the installation of a drip irrigation system is a great option because most do it yourselfers can install them easily.

What Is It?

A drip irrigation system is a series of tubes. The tubes have holes placed in them at specific intervals, which will fit with the placement of your plants. The systems are placed under the soil.  This provides for deep and efficient watering. They are also water conservers because there is very little evaporation, they water only where plants are, and there isn’t wind to carry the water where it doesn’t need to go. Because you are watering underground, you do not need to water your plants as much either. It doesn’t work well for watering the entire lawn, but will work for watering sections of it.  Root health is promoted by drip irrigation systems. This allows for hardier plants that are more resistant to pests, drought, and disease.

Drip irrigation systems are most often installed around flowers and shrubs, and even trees. The approach is targeted which allows watering to be more effective and more efficient. It helps ensure that each of the landscape’s individual elements are properly watered. A drip irrigation system can be easily concealed so that the tubes do not ruin the look of your property.

How To Install

Installing drip irrigation is simple. You can create the system yourself, using hoses and making use of water available to your home. There are kits available at most home improvement stores and warehouses that can help you better install a drip system. The installation only takes one day (or even less!). The kits come with easy to read instructions that clearly explain all of the necessary steps. There are some tools needed for the installation of your drip irrigation system, but you probably have them.

You can also make plant maintenance even easier by adding a timer to your system. The timers can be purchased at home improvement stores.  They are easy to install as well.  Timers insure that you plants are watered without you needing to remember to do so. They help your plants to get the right amount of water at the right time.

Your drip irrigation systems can be used in conjunction with “irrigation zones” in your landscape. Plants that have similar water needs should be planted in the same area so that they can be more efficiently watered. This helps you to not overwater some plants because others in the area need more water.

All in all, drip irrigation systems are more economical as well as a better choice for keeping your plants healthy and hardy. They can help to improve your garden as well as help you to do the things that you want to instead of running out to move the sprinkler, again.
